Matreier Tauernhaus

Surrounded by lush alpine meadows and old huts is this alpine inn at an elevation of 1,512 m. The inn looks back on a centuries-old tradition of providing food and lodgings to packers traveling over the Alps.

The Matreier Tauernhaus was built in the 13th century by the Salzburg archbishop as a welcoming accommodation, basically a mountain hostel as it was called at the time. Today, the house offers accommodations for 100 people in cozy group and family rooms in the sunny Tauern valley. Whether hiker or mountain climber, ski tourer, snowshoer, cross-country skier, alpine skier, or ice climber - this alpine inn is the ideal base camp in the Hohe Tauern National Park. The kitchen uses only fresh products and is dedicated to home-style, farmhouse traditions that harmoniously integrate East and South Tyrolean influences.
