Sudetendeutsche Hütte

It is the only central base in the south of the Granatspitz group. The Sudentendeutsche Hütte is located at an elevation of 2,650 m with a magnificent view of the Obere Steineralm.

The hut is located in the southern part of the Granatspitz group, between the Venediger and Glockner group, south of the main ridge of the Tauern between the Felbertauern tunnel and Rudolfshütte in the north and the towns of Matrei in Osttirol and Kals am Großglockner in the south. In this location, it is the perfect starting point to easily reach the 3000 m high peaks of the Muntanitz group, which offer interesting climbing tours with a variety of difficulty levels as well as high alpine ski tours. Sun, wood, and rapeseed oil are the only energy sources that supply the hut with electricity and heat. Supplying food to the hut is rather difficult. At the beginning of the season, food is flown in by helicopter. Later in the summer, food and drink as well as gas containers and rapeseed oil must be transported in three stages to the hut.
