Venediger Track

From the parking area Ströden/Hinterbichl/Prägraten leads a carriage-road to Maurer-valley and to Stoanalm. First it leads through larch- and spruce forest along the Maurer-river. After the „Ochsnerhütte“ (2.068 m) reach in a zigzag along a former lateral moraine of the „Simonykees“ (glaicier) to Essener-Rostocker Hütte. By the way a detour to Simony-lake or to Rostocker Eck is worthwhile not only for its terrific view.

Then walk in serpentines through a moraine landscape up to Türmljoch. The descent goes over a steep, but good way to the oldest hut of the Venediger group - the Johannis Hütte. Built in 1857, expanded and rebuilt in 1999. Further on through a gently undulating landscape till a little pond at the „Wallischen Stoan“, from there you have a marvellous view to Defregger Haus, via a little bit steeper path walk to the slopes of „Mullwitzaderls“, where the Defregger Haus stands. From there up to the Großvenediger (3.674 m). For this tour a mountain guide is recommended. Mountain guides have been leading their guests safely to the summit since the pioneering erea for Alpine tourism, as nobody knows the realities on the mountain (weather conditions, local knowledge, risk areas) better than them. For those who does not dare the Großvenediger hike to the beginning of the „Schartl“ and enjoy the terrific view to Großvenediger, Rainerhorn, Schwarze Wand and the glaciers of the Mullwitz and Rainer Kees. - Attention! Only with a mountain guide from the Defregger Haus via the glaicier to the Eissee Hütte.

Take the same way back to Johannis Hütte. From there via the Sajat Höhenweg, first via green meadows then via rocky terrain till the Sajatscharte (2.750 m). Surefootedness and head for heights is required.

Terrific view to Sajat Hütte. Enjoy a smashing view via the Sajat-Mähder till Eissee Hütte and with luck you can watch some marmots and chamois. Further on more or less always at the same altitude underneath the „Großer Hexenkopf“, the „Hohen Eichham“ and „Wunspitze“ to Bonn-Matreier-Hütte. The descent leads through the „Großes Niltal“ to Nilljoch Hütte and further on via blooming meadows to Bodenalm. Via the „Dorfermähder“ to Bichl and then first over a wide then a narrow path through thick larch- and spruce forest to the Stabant Hütte.
