Cycling experience

Mountain bike and e-bike tours in accordance with untouched nature

Mountain biking in the National Park is an experience of a special kind. Mountainbike routes of different difficulties, good signage, a magnificent mountain scenery, a healthy natural landscape and the sunny weather speak for themselves.

An exciting challenge offers the driveway to the highest mountain in Austria over the old Glocknerstraße from Kals. Another opportunity is the Iselradweg, which leads families from Matrei to Lienz (or reversed).

Great views are waiting in Bikepark Großglockner!
A real insider tip is the Iseltalradweg which runs along the sole, untamed glacial river in Austria.
Virgental Radweg
For the ambitious bikers it is easily possible to drive through the valley from Matrei to Zedlach above Virgen, Prägraten to the parking lot Ströden (1400 m)
From Virgen the trail first leads downhill to the Virger-Tratte and then uphill to Würfelehütte tavern. Here you will be able to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Virgental valley and its 3,000 m peaks.
The route starts from Gasthof Islitzer (guesthouse) along a paved road towards Groderhof, after the last left turn continue straight ahead and then over the bridge towards Wiesenkreuz (barriers). Then turn left and continue over the Venedigerbrücke bridge and into a steep curve towards Gumpachkreuz. From here the trail is a gentle climb past the Ochsnerhütte tavern to the main destination, Johannishütte tavern (open from mid-June to early October).
From the town hall take a north-easterly direction towards Wallhorn, then past the last farm until you reach a fork in the trail at Zuchental, continue through the forest and over 2 cattle gates, climbing steadily until you arrive on a hill with a rest bench. From here gingerly along the narrow footpath of Zuchtalgraben (dismount and push section) until you reach the main road. Then descend down Bodenalmstraße from where it takes about 20 minutes to reach Bodenalm.
